On the surface of it, it might seem like furniture and health aren’t linked at all. But actually, investing in good quality furniture pieces for your home can be so beneficial for your mental and physical health. Admittedly good furniture is expensive and not everyone is in a position to just go out and buy lots of new luxury items, but if you can then these are some things worth investing in. That could mean saving up a little or using finance to spread the cost. It could mean buying a mix of new and second hand, but either way it’s money that’s well spent. Here are some ideas.
Bed
As humans we spend so much of our time sleeping, so it makes sense that a good bed will be a good investment. However, more specifically it’s a good mattress that’s important, so this is where to spend your money. You could go out and find a second hand bed frame cheaply, lots of people get rid of solid wooden beds online and they can easily be cleaned up or have a new headboard added to them. As long as all of the slats are in good condition (again these can easily be replaced) then you’re good to go. Spend the budget you have on the best mattress you can afford, this is what will give you the most comfort and support. The link between sleeping on an unsupportive mattress and back/ neck pain causes is clear, and it will definitely affect your sleep too. Do some research and test out different types as what’s comfy for you will depend on lots of things, like how much you weight and personal preference. So go to some mattress shops and physically lie on a few to get an idea.
Sofa
Another piece of furniture you spend a lot of time sitting on is your sofa. We all need downtime and a chance to relax, and sitting on the sofa and unwinding with a good book or movie can be brilliant for mental health. But if you’re falling into a dip or have unsupporive springs poking into you it might be causing issues with your back and neck because of how you’re sitting. The same is true if you’re sitting in an old chair, if you’re in a financial position to be able to update these pieces of furniture you’ll be more comfy and it will help your health as well. Good living room furniture means you’re probably more likely to spend time sitting together as a family which can make you feel happier and more fulfilled too, rather than everyone going their separate ways to their room.
Dining table
Another piece of furniture that can be great for bringing your family together is a dining table. So many research studies have shown that families that eat together are usually happier and healthier, it gives you a little bit of time each day where you’re all together and can check in with your kids and partner. A good dining set can give you the opportunity to host things like dinner parties for friends, and do things like crafts with your kids as well. All things that will lead to you feeling happier and more fulfilled in life.
