With the holiday season here, it’s essential to know that not everyone drinks. Whether by choice or recovering from an addiction, some people will celebrate the holidays cheerfully, but without a glass of alcoholic cheer.
Whether it’s for yourself, for a friend at a party who doesn’t drink, for kids, or just for a sober occasion, these holiday mocktails are great.
Candy Cane
The candy cane is a treat that holiday lovers savor, and it makes for a great mocktail. This candy cane mocktail consists of cream soda, simple syrup, peppermint oil, and candy canes for the martini glass.
You use the syrup to coat the glass’s rim and add candy cane pieces. Then, you combine a cup of half-and-half with 12 oz of cream soda, 4 tsp syrup, and a few drops of peppermint oil. Adjust for taste.
Then, you have a candy cane mocktail that anyone celebrating the season will love. It’s a sweet treat that anyone will love.
The Grinch
The Grinch is a Christmas classic, and this mocktail is themed after him, using green and a little red to match his Santa disguise.
To make it, combine two packets of lemon-lime Kool-Aid or similar product with two cups of sugar, 12 oz of Pineapple juice, 12 oz thawed lemonade concentrate, and ½ liter of sprite.
Then, use red sanding sugar to create a trim for your glass. Voila!
You have a beautiful mocktail that even a person cynical about the holidays will enjoy. We suggest making one and watching The Grinch with your kids (or on your own)!
Eggnog
Non-alcoholic eggnog is easily found in most stores, but if you want to make something special, you can make this mocktail from scratch.
Combine with a blender four cups of milk with six egg yolks, 2/3 cup of honey, a teaspoon each of nutmeg and ground cinnamon, and 1 ½ tsp of non-alcoholic vanilla extract.
Heat the mix into a pot on medium and add one tsp of whole cloves. Stir well until thickened for 10 minutes, avoiding a boil.
Then, pour it into a strainer. Remove any cloves and chill. You can add whipped cream to give it a more regal feel.
It is rich in calories, so be sure to drink sparingly if you’re trying to be mindful of that.
You don’t have to have alcohol to enjoy the holidays. Sometimes, having a unique drink that lacks alcohol can make for a fun time. We suggest trying all these recipes, looking up some other mocktails, or maybe experimenting on your own. You may make some memories over these drinks.
We realize that the holidays can be a time of celebration and dangerous for some people. Luckily, there are helpful centers, like the Master Center in Virginia, designed to treat people with addiction.
If you or someone you love is suffering from an addiction, maybe speaking with them about getting help could make all the difference during the holiday season.
Whatever you do, your support and love are paramount to helping them succeed.
