Exciting Architectural Wonders Buildings to Open

From galleries and museums to institutes and financial centers, every year the world gets richer by truly fascinating architectural designs. Anticipated by many since their constructions started, 2018 has prepared a lot of exciting buildings to open and the world is ready. Geniuses of architecture and modern design have been working hard on their outstanding projects for years, so revealing their work is expected with a great delight. Some of these impressive buildings of tomorrow will make us want to see them in person, just like we want to travel for miles in order to see those amazing ones from times past like Eiffel Tower, Great Wall of China, or Burj Khalifa. Take a look at some of the architectural wonders brought to you by 2018:

National Museum of Qatar (Doha, Qatar)

 

Announced to open in December 2018, National Museum is built around one of Qatar’s most recognizable landmarks, Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani’s original palace. Although designed by Jean Nouvel, the French finest architect with the world reputation, the large number of Qatari arts and culture experts have been highly involved in developing the museum. The interlocking discs of the building look like an architectural masterpiece, and if you wonder what is the inspiration, it’s the desert rose. Once open, the museum will have 12 museum galleries with a desert rose gallery located in the center of the museum.

 

ARC Power Plant (Copenhagen, Denmark)

Ammager Resource Center (ARC) is a waste management plant that is planning to convert 400, 000 tons of waste per year into providing 160, 000 homes with hot water and power. In addition to its convenient primary purpose, this modern day building will provide a great amount of fun on its rooftop where the world’s longest artificial ski slopes will be located. Skiing on 440 meters (1440 feet) ski slope with three skiing lines is expected to attract numerous of Copenhagen’s ski lovers. Brilliant ideas go together even when at first they sound a little unusual. The power plant partially already opened at the beginning of 2017, but the completion and opening are scheduled for summer of this year.

 

Taipei Performing Arts Center (Taipei, Taiwan)

The excitement of opening the Taipei Performing Arts Center started over six years ago when the construction began. Combining a sphere and a square into this stunning design will make this building distinguishable from any other once it opens. The Performing Arts Center will consist of three multifunctional theaters which include a 1500-seat theatre, 2000-seat auditorium, and 800-seat playhouse. The opening of the center still has no date confirmed, but it’s expected to hit completion sometime this year.

V&A Museum of Design (Dundee, Scotland)

Kengo Kuma, one of the greatest Japanese architects, who designed Asakusa Culture and Tourism Centre in Tokyo and was chosen to design Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium for the 2020 Olympic Games, is the genius architect behind the V&A Museum of Design. Kuma, inspired by Scotland’s rugged cliffs, took 2500 cast stone panels, weighing two tones each with the length of 4 meters (13.1 feet) and combined them in this magnificent museum hoping to attract many. V&A is located in the heart of the city of Dundee and will be the first design museum for Scotland when it opens this summer.

National Veterans Memorial & Museum (Columbus, Ohio)

The idea for building the National Veterans Memorial & Museum was born when Committee of Veterans’ recognized it’s time for America to have a museum dedicated to the veterans’ experience. The building of 50, 000 feet is created as a concrete arch structure with a glass curtain wall system, featuring a spiral processional rising to a sanctuary on the rooftop. Aiming to tell stories of American veterans across all branches of service, Veterans Memorial and Museum’s grand opening is scheduled to open to the public in the summer of 2018 in Downtown Columbus, Ohio.

 

China Zun Tower (Beijing, China)

Reaching the top of the development this year, and with its height of 1,732 feet in a race with other vertical giants around the world, China Zun Tower will be China’s tallest building. "Zun" which is the ancient Chinese ceremonial vessel is what inspired the tower’s unique form. The inner trumpet-shaped business center will light up at night and form a beacon that will be visible throughout Beijing. Six years in the making, China Zun Tower supposed to reach completion in the coming months and open in 2018.

 

 

 

 

 

 

New Central Library (Calgary, Canada)

 

The construction of this beautiful five-level library in Calgary, Canada, with 240, 000 square foot began in 2014 and is planning to open its doors in November of this year. New Central Library welcomes everyone to be a new gathering place in the city. Inside the library, there will be a 350-seat Performance Hall, thirty meeting spaces, and studios for making video games and music for teens while the upper levels will provide quiet library space. The geometrical shape of the building is a joint design project by Snøhetta, company which designed the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York, and Canadian company DIALOG.
