As we approach another Mother’s Day in quarantine, it’s more important than ever to keep Mom’s spirits high and let her know how much she’s loved. Luckily, there are tons of ways to do this.
A Little Something Green
Our go-to gift for Mom is a beautiful Mother’s Day plant that can liven up her home and remind her that she’s cherished when she looks at it. The chances are that it’ll be well received; one poll showed that a whopping 43% of moms want flowers for Mother’s Day. When you have a bouquet sent to her house, be sure to include a heartfelt note in the card; it might just be her favorite part.
A Jar of Favorite Memories
All your Mom wants is to know that you love spending time with her. So why not gift her a jar of your favorite memories? Get hold of some colorful paper and cut it into strips. Write a favorite moment with Mom on each strip and put them all inside a jar. Tie the jar with a bow, and voila! She can read memory when she misses you. (Which is probably every day!)
A Home Spa Day
If you’ll be with your Mom in person on Mother’s Day, why not keep her smiling by giving her the spa experience she’s been missing the past year? Offer to paint her nails and treat her to a luxurious face mask--the kind she would never indulge in for herself.
A Tantalizing Meal
Another way to make Mom happy if you’ll be with her on a special day? With food, of course! Cook a meal of all her favorites, or pick up takeout from her favorite restaurant and present it on nice plates at home. Bonus points if you bake a pretty dessert afterward (or pick one up from an excellent bakery; that works too).
A Cozy Movie Night
Offer to watch your Mom’s favorite movie with her (even if it’s something you wouldn’t typically choose to watch), and be sure to bring popcorn and other fun munchies for a Mother’s Day evening she’ll remember.
Take an Online Class Together
Is there something Mom has always wanted to learn, like painting or poetry? If so, find an online class that teaches her subject of preference, and plan to take it with her on Mother’s Day. It wouldn’t hurt to bring over a nice bottle of wine, too.
Put Together a Photo Album
Nobody cherishes family photos more than your Mom, but the chances are that many of them are sitting in a box collecting dust. For an incredibly thoughtful gift, dig up all of those pictures and arrange them in a photo album or scrapbook. Include a thoughtful note about what all of those memories meant to you.
Talk About Her Life
Lucky for us, our moms can be our number one fans and cheerleaders. But sometimes, that means we spend a lot more time talking about ourselves with our moms than we would with anyone else.
It’s good to remember your Mom has a vibrant life of her own and an exciting history that happened years before you were born. Buy your mom dinner and ask to hear her stories for once! We recommend writing these down or even recording her talking about them. They’ll become cherished memories down the road.
Making Mom smile doesn’t have to be complicated or cost a lot. All she wants to know is that you care! We hope you find a way to make her day this Mother’s Day. Chances are it’ll make yours, too.
