Whether you're a seasoned solo traveler or looking to travel solo for the first time, New York is the perfect destination for you.
French philosopher Simone de Beauvoir has rightly said, "There is something in the New York air that makes sleep useless."
When you travel alone to The City That Never Sleeps, you can be yourself, meet new people, dine at the finest restaurants, watch fantastic architecture, and live in the moment. If you want to save money and have lots of tourist attractions that you want to visit, look into buying The New York Pass.
Sounds exciting.
Here are eight ways you can enjoy NYC when traveling solo.
1. Walk Across The Brooklyn Bridge
If you didn't walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, did you even go to New York!?!
The walkway across the bridge is slightly over a mile, and you can cross it at any time of the day.
I recommend spending at least an hour on the bridge to enjoy the spectacular views and click Instagrammable pictures.
2. Eat To Your Heart's Content
In a busy city like NYC, there are quite a few perks for the solo traveler. For instance, you won't have trouble getting a table at the famous restaurants and diners.
What should you try in the city?
Pizzas, bagels, sandwiches, waffles, you name it. The Greek food in midtown is a must-try. Don't forget to devour the delicacies at food trucks. Dine at some of the city's finest restaurants like Eleven Madison Park.
3. Show Some Love To Modern Art
The Museum of Modern Art, also called MoMa, is a place that celebrates creativity and openness. They're committed to sharing the most thought-provoking modern and contemporary art.
MoMA established the world's first curatorial department for architecture in 1932.
You can appreciate their collection in either Manhattan or Queens. You can also buy souvenirs from MoMA's offline or online stores.
Travelers usually back out of online shopping worrying about package theft. To tackle that, I recommend subscribing to a package storage service that lets you pick your orders at your convenience.
4. Get Some Vitamin Sea
Coney Island Beach is a beautiful spot to spend a day. After all, nothing soothes the soul like a day at the ocean.
You can walk along the boardwalk or enjoy an amusement ride at Coney Island. Visit the nearby New York Aquarium or the MCU park.
Close to Coney Island Beach, you can find Brighton Beach and its friendly neighborhood, Little Odessa. Don't forget to check out its Eastern European stores and restaurants.
5. Go For A Ride On The Staten Island Ferry
Operated by the New York City Department of Transportation, the Staten Island Ferry runs through New York Harbor between Manhattan and Staten Island.
En route, you get to see many city attractions, including the Statue of Liberty. Once you reach Staten Island, you can find retail outlets that offer discounts on several premium brands.
Did I mention that the ferry runs fare-free?
6. Step Into A New World At Sleep No More
Immerse yourself in a unique theatrical experience at Sleep No More. It is an indoor promenade performance that lasts for nearly 3 hours.
Sleep No More is a presentation of Shakespeare's classic tragedy, Macbeth, through a suspenseful film noir, brought to you by Emursive in collaboration with Punchdrunk.
You can move freely through this transporting world at your own pace by choosing any path you wish through the story.
7. Try Thrift Shopping
In recent times, thrift shopping has gained popularity even among New Yorkers. No matter what neighborhood you're visiting in the city, you'd find at least one thrift store.
Beacon's Closet, Sunnyside Thrift Shop, Loveday 31 Vintage, and Grand Street Local are some popular thrift stores loved by tourists.
8. Check Out The Locations You've Seen On Television
Many films and shows have been filmed in the Big Apple.
For example, you can check out the New York Public Library from Gossip Girl, Flatiron Building from Armageddon, and Tom's Restaurant from Seinfeld. The list goes on.
If you have a favorite show or movie filmed in NYC, don't forget to visit its filming locations.
