If you’re someone who likes to cut their reoccurring costs, go for that economical diesel car. But if you’re the type of person who wants to slash costs to the bone, then electric cars, or EVs, are the best way to go. Although the price tag is high and the range of electric cars is limited, all of these issues are improving.
The latest models of EVs are now giving a driving range of up to 300 miles on just a single charge, which is a lot more than people need in their daily routine. Even though the prices are still high for electric cars, with the use of electric vehicle tech growing, car companies are gradually bringing the prices down as the technology spreads.
Manufacturers that are leading the electric car sales are BMW, Tesla, and Nissan, with automakers Toyota and Honda lagging behind in their development of electric cars. BMW leads all major automakers in EV sales. Their new 2017 model will be upgraded to a potent lithium-ion battery, which is said to increase from 81 miles to a possible 114 miles. The new model will continue to offer buyers a two cylinder, range-extending gasoline tank that is tucked under the cargo floor.
Tesla is a groundbreaking company that produces only EVs, making it a leader among automakers. In 2015, Tesla was named the top selling EV car maker. Tesla’s new Model 3 will feature full self-driving hardware. Owners will be able to fold the rear seats flat, which will clear about 66 inches of space behind the front seat. All Model 3 cars will have support for Tesla’s high speed supercharging network.
The new 2017 Nissan Leaf will feature a battery pack upgrade with a 30-kilowatt-hour battery pack, giving the Leaf approximately a 107 mile range.
While Toyota had success in 2016 with the Prius Plug-In, the company has removed the model and now has no new plug-in EV for sale in this country.
Honda, on the other hand, will soon enter the EV sale race with an all electric, battery-powered version of its Clarity eco-mobile. Few details have been released, but the Clarity Electric will have a battery-powered five-seat hatchback and will offer Apple CarPlay.
Speaking of Apple, there are rumors that they are currently developing their own car called iCar to rival other manufacturers—namely Tesla. Not much is known about the iCar at this present time.
If you wish to purchase an EV, then you must have the lifestyle that goes with it. Specifically, if you mainly do short, local trips, and you can find a place to plug in and charge, then you’ve hit the jackpot.
