How to Properly Install Window Blinds

Want to install new blinds? Selecting new blinds for your home is fun, but installing them is much fun. Though the process of installing blinds can be tricky, with an expert guide to help you learn how to handle and install different types of blinds, the process will be easy for you. Now let’s add a professional look and feel to your windows.

Tools

Having the right tools and resources is essential for the success of the installation process. Here is a list of tools you should have on-site before you start installing your blinds.

➢      Metal tape measure

➢      Flathead screwdriver

➢      Drill

➢      Head screwdriver

It is evident from the listing of tools necessary to equip yourself with drills’ basic knowledge and skills. Otherwise, it is recommended you get a professional to install the blinds for you.

In addition to having the required tools, it’s crucial to know what parts and pieces you will need to complete the installation process. According to the professionals from Blinds Online by Tuiss, you should open the blinds package and familiarize yourself with all the items in it, including the manual guide. This may seem like a small step that you can complete and install your blinds immediately, but it can be a complicated process. It will also help you organize your tools before the installation process and save you some time.

The Installation Process

Though different blinds have special installation instructions, this installation guide will help you install typical blinds. Always read the installation guide that comes with your window blinds to ensure you don’t miss any special instructions.

Step 1: Unwrap the Blinds.

The first step is relatively easy, even without a guide. Ensure to take out the blinds from their packaging, and hold then against the window you wish to install them on to see if they fit. You will either do an inside mount (where the blinds are installed inside the window casing) or an outside installation (blinds are installed outside the window casing). The fitting of the blind on the window will determine how and where to install the brackets.

Inside Mount

In this installation pattern, it is essential to ensure that the window’s headrail is clear of obstructions and levels inside the frame. Once it is aligned, use a pencil to marks 1/8 inches below the headrail on all ends. This is where you will position the bottom of the brackets.

Outside Mount

Hold the window blinds against the wall or the window frame. Where you place the blinds depends on their length to ensure they cover the full window. Make pencil marks 1/8 inches beyond the ends of the headrail. This is where you will fix the brackets.

Step 2: Installing the Mounting Brackets

So far, the process has been easy as you have only used a pencil and a measuring tape. Now we get to the gist of the process. The next step is to install the mounting brackets. This will require the use of screws, not one, but two screws. Hold each bracket against the surface, and mark two diagonal holes for the screws. Hold the bracket over the window and drive two screws outside the window frame for an outside mount or inside for an inside installation.

How to Properly Install Window Blinds

If your blind has an auxiliary support bracket, place it in line with the brackets. They should not align vertically with the blind’s ladder or cord as they will interfere with the tilting and lifting mechanism of the blind.

Step 3: Fix the Headrail

Once the bracket is in place, it is time to install the headrail in the mounting brackets. Most of the headrails fit well in the frames. Do not panic if they don’t lock correctly. Just remove the headrail and check for any pieces that need to be opened or removed on its edges.

Step 4: Attach the Valance.

Most blinds come with magnets screwed into the valance, so you simply stick the valance to the headrail. For outside mount blinds, you will have to attach the valance yourself. It’s not rocket science; you only need to connect the valance to the headrail using clips.

Step 5: Install the Wand

This is the final step, and it’s relatively easy. Once the headrail is fixed, attach the wand to the hook and confirm it is firmly placed.

Once you complete the installation process, test the blinds to ensure the slats are adjusting angles. This wouldn’t be necessary if you ordered cordless blinds since they don’t have wand attachments. If you doubt your abilities or desire a professional touch, get an expert to install the blinds for you.
