People tend to spend a lot of time and money making the design of their home as aesthetically pleasing as they can. You want a space you can feel happy and at home in, and that you enjoy showing to visitors. You want it to have the stamp of your personality and be an extension of the person you see yourself as. However, when it comes to the workplace, these aspirations often fall by the wayside, and function plus cost become the over-riding considerations. It doesn’t have to be that way, as there are lots of ideas for making workplaces as aesthetically attractive as your home without causing disruption or being overly expensive.
Lighting
The introduction of LEDs to lighting systems has meant it’s possible to have bright light without it being too harsh. Good lighting is essential in all workplace environments, so instead of standard lighting solutions, why not explore the possibilities of alternative systems that provide the best quality light but with style? Of course, it’s essential to put safety considerations first, for example, if you have any fire risk areas you should use explosion resistant AE Light products to avoid the added danger of shattered lights should there be any combustion. Desk lights in offices are a good example of where you can add a touch of style in a fairly simple way.
Décor
Offices are often bland and colorless, but with a bit of thought you can liven up your space. Pale, neutral shades are used because they are inoffensive, they optimize light quality, and they won’t clash with anything. If you want to retain the light color scheme, adding art or photography to bare walls will enhance the look and add some interest without being too bold. Choose your artwork with care so that it complements your business. If you have any team members with artistic talent, you could ask them to produce some paintings or photos for you. Or how about a team building day where everyone creates their own artwork to hang in the office? Plants are another addition that is fairly simple to organize but has many benefits. Having leafy plants in your workspace will improve the air quality and make the space feel far more inviting. Just make sure someone takes responsibility for caring for the plants, because having a lot of dried up sticks around the place will not have the same positive effects! Of course, if your office is lacking a green thumb, then succulents and cactus are not only trendy but hard to kill.
Make it personal
Your workspace doesn’t have to be a soul-less gray area with no personality. As long as there is nothing too distracting, inappropriate or unsafe on display, encourage your staff to make their space their own and decorate it as they wish. It will boost morale, make staff happier to be at work, and will add some color and interest to the workplace.
These are just a few examples of easy fixes that can make the workplace a much more vibrant, enjoyable place to be. Try some of these ideas where you work and see how they can help you make your business a better place to be.
