Buy Produce From the Freshest Vendors in Your City
Looking for Farm Fresh Produce? Look no further! North County San Diego has dozens of farmer's markets a week, making local and organic produce readily available for San Diegans. With so many options, and more than one market per day, it can be hard to pick and choose the best places to visit. FINE magazine has got all the best information on hot spots in the market! Journalists underwent trial and error, online research, and spoke with Michael Garcia, a local vendor selling succulents from his family’s farm, Rancho Garcia Nursery in Vista. Now we have narrowed down the top four North County Markets.
1. Encinitas/ Leucadia
North County San Diego farmer's markets
Every Sunday from 10:00 am to 2pm, vendors come from all over North County to sell their locally sourced goods at Paul Ecke Elementary-185 Union St (at Vulcan). According to Michael Garcia, this market is unique in that it is held at an elementary school, where they have community gardens for the schoolchildren, promoting locally sourced produce.
The Leucadia market has over 75 vendors, as well as a large certified organic section. This market is one of the most reliable in North County because it NEVER cancels due to weather. The vendors are here for you. Rain or Shine.
2. Vista
North County San Diego farmer's markets
Vista holds its farmer's market twice a week, on Wednesdays from 4-8pm, and Saturdays from 8am-1pm at the County Courthouse, located at 325 S. Melrose Drive (just South of Highway 78) and 271 Main St and Indiana Ave. The Vista Market is the longest running farmers market in the county, making it one of San Diego’s original markets! Michael Garcia likes this market because of its monthly wellness fair, as well as its quarterly kids market, where children can come and sell their locally made crafts and goods. This market has at least 150 venders that come from within ten miles of the market itself. This ensures that visitors are only buying locally sourced products.
3. Carlsbad
North County San Diego farmer's markets
The Carlsbad market runs from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm every Wednesday at 530 Grand Ave (State St between Carlsbad Village & Grand). This newly refurbished Market has been ranked 4th of all the markets in San Diego County in 2017. Vendors offer all sorts of local produce, as well as a variety of ethnic options for dining. Pets are welcome at this market as well, so bring Spot along for the day! Guests can book a private market tour with a Chef, followed by a multi-course meal prepared from ingredients and products from the market. The tour is an opportunity to experience food in an up close and personal way. Tickets are $55 and do not include tip or drinks. Email Christine at info@carlsbad-village.com for more information or ticket purchases.
4. Del Mar
North County San Diego farmer's markets
Finally, our very own Del Mar Market! This one runs on Saturdays from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at 1050 Camino Del Mar (Between 10th & 11th Streets). The really cool thing about this bazaar is that shopping here directly benefits the community. The Market has supported the Del Mar Library, Community Connections, the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy and has even provided Scholarships for Students of Farmers who are part of the DMFM. Not only are you shopping locally and organically, you are helping a community prosper!
Whether you are looking for great local produce, or a fun way to spend the day, farmer's markets are an excellent option for a day trip. So get out there and support your local farmers!
