The bright yellow fringed scatter pillows and yellow ottoman, with the light-colored carpet and beige/cream ottoman, are what make this room warm and cozy.
We all like to feel warm and cozy during the cold winter months. No matter where you are, winter is always the time to cuddle up at home, around a fire, in front of the TV, or in bed with a book.
Creating a warm, snug, and relaxing space do not mean just adding heavy blankets and non-slippery socks, though. To make that special and sheltered winter feel in your home, you need to think about style, colors, fabrics, and textures.
Colors
As we all know, colors have significance to the human mind, consciously and subconsciously. Colors are expressive, provide ideas, and generate and enhance emotions and moods. As such, the use of colors in interior design is significant and compelling.
To add warmth to a space and add a sense of coziness, warm colors need to be used. These include reds, yellows, oranges, browns, and even burgundies. So if your space has cold colors such as green, blue, grey, and purple, this might be a time for some redecoration. According to interior designer Annette Former, “by tastefully adding a warm color, you can alter the ambiance of a room. Combine a splash of color easily by introducing a warm, lush beige carpet or deep burgundy throw pillows on your sofa/ Even hanging wall art that contains warm colors can do the trick. You will immediately see the difference.”
Textures and Fabrics
If you want a cozier feel than the sheer white curtains you used to filter the sun and light in the summer, heavier drapes are a good substitute that is easy to install. If you’ve planned, then you might have installed double-layer curtains, saving you the trouble. Now is the time to give your space a facelift with heavier curtains most likely made of denser, thicker fabrics. That way, you insulate windows and provide warmth in color and feel.

The grey color of the velvet headboard and the decorative painted walls is a bit cold. The heavy drapery, the colorful throw pillows (note the fluffy one), the yellow bedspread, and the little armchair provide that warm, inviting feel.
As mentioned above, Pillows come in many warm colors and a wide range of fabrics. Frommer loves to use velvet textures since “velvet is a woven, tufted fabric that offers a distinct and warm feel. It is so soft to touch and rich to the human eye, and it is an exceptional fabric that will enhance your space in many ways.”
If you want more texture, and if you’ve always dreamed of wallpapering a wall, then you can opt for a wallpaper that is textured and almost fabric-like. A stunning array of textured wallpaper exists in many home stores these days. You can define your room in the exact way you’ve always dreamed. The wallpaper will spruce up your room, and it will add stylish warmth on those dreary cold days.
When we speak of textures, wood is at the forefront. Wood equals warmth and has been a favorite amongst designers for years and years. Wood is versatile and infuses furniture and carpentry with natural beauty. So whether cherry, maple, rosewood, or whatever, adding wood to any room will provide it with instant warmth.

No matter the color of the sofa, all this wood makes this room feel like a warm winter cabin!.
The light color of the sofa provides neutrality against the colorful textured pillows. Note the spectacular velvet burgundy scatter pillow.
Annette Frommer sums it up pretty well when she says: “Comfort can also be stylish. By adding pieces and accessories in the right color and texture, you can make your home both cozy and chic.”
