How to turn your bedroom into your lockdown sanctuary

It's the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing before you close your eyes for the night. That's why it's so important to ensure your bedroom is the epitome of relaxation, especially during these strange times. Here we share some tips to ensure your room is stress-free and relaxation-friendly.

Keep it tidy

Ensuring your room stays organized and tidy will be a huge stress reliever when it comes to the end of another day indoors. Spotting The Chair piled high with clothes right before you tuck yourself in is not the best way to get a calm, deep sleep – so ensure you have adequate storage solutions to make sure your room is as neat as possible.

Have clothes put away in cupboards, makeup and hair bits stashed in a tidy box, or invest in a storage bed – Divan Beds Centre has a massive selection of options. With drawers or ottoman-opening beds that will hide a multitude of sins for lots of different budgets.

Find your scent

Did you know that certain scents can affect the emotional center in your brain? It can significantly reduce stress, and so to make your bedroom a sanctuary. It would be best if you considered a little aromatherapy.

Pick candles or a diffuser and a scent that you love, and light it up/turn it on whenever you go to your room for the evening. Let yourself settle with the smell and the soft lighting. Candles will allow you to switch off from your workday and melt away any lockdown worries when you're having 'one of those days'.

Adjust your lighting

The lighting in your bedroom is equivalent to relaxation. There are a few things you can do to ensure your rooms are lit for your needs;

● If you need complete darkness to sleep, invest in some blackout curtains for optimal coziness.

● If you prefer natural light to wake you up, you might choose a sheer curtain that combines privacy and the right amount of light.

● And if you need both complete darkness and natural light, you might want to invest in a programmed table lamp to act as sunrise and give you a more gradual wake-up call.

Buying curtains isn't always a cheap venture, so make sure you get something long-lasting, your style, and opt for a window-to-floor look to keep heat in this winter and give that extra luxurious feel.

Play with your surroundings

It's essential to surround yourself with things you love during a difficult period like lockdown. Here are some tips for changing your area for the better;

  • Try to designate specific areas for different activities. Try not to sit down to work in your bed, or for gaming, if you can help it, however tempting it may be. You need to have a workspace and a relaxing sleep space, and it's good to keep those separate even in the same room.
  • Add some plants to the room.
  • Add a rug for warmth, a throw to your bed, extra pillows, and artwork that makes you smile. Create coziness in your room, and the concept of hygge will make your bedroom your evening sanctuary.
  • Keep your hobbies near - add a bookshelf and cozy chair so you can reach for a novel whenever you need quiet time. Keep your yoga mat in the room so you can get in an early practice first thing. If you're in a shared house/flat and you can only take up space in your allotted room, then make it work for as many purposes as possible.

Hopefully, this advice will help you feel uncluttered in your mind and physical space to make your bedroom the ultimate relaxation area in this strange time in our lives.
