Having plants at home adds more brightness and freshness to every room they're in. Plants also give a fresh scent and an aesthetic look. Some studies also show that plants have a positive effect on your mood. Caring for plants may feel like a bit of a challenge, but it isn't when you get used to it and learn the simple tricks to help you take good care of your plants. Because plants are worth the effort, we bring you some tips and tricks to follow to give your plants what they need to stay alive and beautiful.
Give Your Plants Sunlight
Being exposed to sunlight is crucial for every being to grow and stay healthy. For plants, sunlight is essential for photosynthesis, which is how plants make food and deliver it to all their parts. If the plants don't get exposed to enough sunlight, they won't absorb the nutrients they need for their growth, which will eventually dry them out.
Learn About a Plant's Basic Needs Before You Buy It
Not every plant has the exact requirements or can survive in the same conditions. Each plant type has its own needs regarding water, temperature, and amount of sunlight it needs to be exposed to. Some plants may be different types of the same species yet adapt to different conditions than the other. Some aloe plants need dryer soil than others, whereas some need more sunlight, so there are a few different types of aloes, and each needs certain conditions to grow. This is why you need to learn about the specific plant you plan on getting and check if your home is a convenient enough place for it to grow.
Water Your Plants
Water is as necessary for plants as it is for every other living creature. You need to make sure your plants are always hydrated. You can tell if your plants need water or not by feeling the soil they're planted in. As long as the ground feels a little wet, your plants are delicate. Once the soil feels dry, you need to water your plants because it means they're starting to dry out. People make a common mistake by overwatering their plants, thinking this is good for them, which is not valid. Your plants need just enough water to keep them hydrated. It is less dangerous to water plants more miniature than to overwater them.
Don't Move Your Plants Around.
Plants need to feel safe and stable to grow healthy. Moving the plant around too much keeps it from getting used to and comfortable in its surroundings. Changing the place too often does not allow the plants to adapt to their surroundings and the spot's temperature.
Fertilizing Isn't a Must.
Fertilizing your plants can help them become stronger and healthier, as it provides them with extra nutrients. If you're not sure about how to fertilize the plants, though, don't do it. Just like overwatering, over-fertilizing plants harms them more than not fertilizing them at all.
Let Your Plants Breathe
As much as plants need sunlight and water, they also need air to breathe. Ensure the room you keep the plants in has windows or air vents that allow healthy, fresh airflow. The airflow keeps them cool and fresh and helps them grow.
Change the Pots Now and Then
You don't need to change the plant pots every day, week, or month, at least depending on the plant itself and its needs. Although, you do need to change the pots occasionally for your plants to add fresher soil to keep them healthy.
Clean Your Plants
A big part of caring for your plants is to remove dust or any other particles from the leaves. Gently clean the leaves with a smooth cloth, then spray the leaves slightly, or clean them with a hose depending on the plant size. Tending the plants also helps clear away insects and diseases that may attack the plants.
Plants may not be able to talk, meow, bark, or tweet like animals and birds, but they do have their language that you will eventually learn about the more you get to know your plants. Think of them as silent pets that need a different type of care and love. You and your plants can form a special bond, where you will feel like you understand each other and have a secret language that only you and the plants speak.
