Five Tips for Betting on Golf

Figure 1 Betting on golf is prevalent.

Golf is a hugely popular sport, and the best players can earn millions over a year with all the tournaments taking place across the globe. But betting on golf can be enjoyable and profitable as well.

You may enjoy a round or two now and again without ever putting your knowledge and expertise to good use in a betting sense. If that sounds like you, read on to discover some of the best tips for golf betting beginners.

Consider the Weather

One of the good things about golf is that it can be played in reasonably extreme weather conditions. But that does mean that good-looking future bets can be severely affected by changes in the weather. The odds for tournament winners will never take what conditions will be like for the players, so you can find good value by checking out the weather forecasts ahead of play.

But it is also a good idea to keep an eye on the weather during a tournament. Big hitters might not be such a good choice if the wind is high – as their skillset will suddenly not be as advantageous as the precise putter. The weather might not be the most significant factor when it comes to placing bets – but it is the details that will help you in the long run.

Think About Each Way or Place Wagers

Nearly every golf tournament around the world will have a large field of players to choose from when it comes to predicting an outright winner. That is good for getting fairly attractive odds for even some of the favorites. But those prices look even more enjoyable when you start considering going for a place, or each way, bets.

As golf betting is prevalent, sportsbooks will compete with each other to offer the best odds. But they will also provide more places in a tournament to entice your business. The odds will shorten if you predict a golfer to finish in the top five rather than just for the win – but with the odds being long, to begin with, you can still expect some healthy returns.

Look for the Local Golfers

By this, we don’t mean some guy who happens to play on the course where a tournament is being played. We would still advise doing your research and looking at the best players. But there is some advantage in finding out which of the top players are more used to playing the course in question,

As a golfer, you would know that you will have more chance of a good round if you have played a course before. This is still the case for professional golfers. Look for some local history in the player’s bio and see if there is any value to be found in the betting markets.

Avoid Parlay Bets

Parlay, or multiple, bets can be a lot of fun. They can keep the interest going on a long day of sport if you watch a series of baseball or football games on the weekend. But they are something to avoid when it comes to betting on golf, in our opinion.

With golf tournaments having so many competitors, a lot can go wrong if you are introducing parlays into your betting. Keep your golf selections simple, and you should be far more successful in the long run.

Live Betting

It hasn’t always been that easy, in some countries, to enjoy placing bets on sports events – and that is, even more, the case when it comes to living, or in-play, betting. But, if you can make wagers as a tournament is in progress, we would recommend checking out the available markets.

With so much going on in just a single round of golf, the odds can change quite a bit during a tournament. Live betting is where your judgment comes into play. Watch what is going on and time your wager well. You might be able to go away with a win.
