Foodie Friday: Bloat-Busting Foods

In the final stretch of summer FINE is here to help you continue to look fab in your bathing suit with these 6 tasty bloat-busting, feel-good superfoods.

Leafy Greens cleanse the lymphatic system

Eating leafy greens such as romaine, spinach and arugla gives you a healthy boost of vitamin K, folic acid and magnesium. This nutrient trio assists one’s lymphatic system (a series of channels located just under the skin) in moving fat-trapping toxins and fluid out of their body. The result is so great that researchers have said that eating only 4 salads in 10 days can help you drop 3 pounds of bloated water weight.

Cucumbers increase kidney function

Researches at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut say that snacking on fresh cucumbers can remove bloat in as little as 3 days. This is due to the richness of silicon and sulfur – diuretic minerals that prompt the kidneys to boost urine output – in these crispy veggies.

Kiwis improve GI function

By eating 2 of these sweet-tart fruits a day you can work to flatten your stomach as well as ward off stomach upset. Researchers at Stanford University assert that the fiber, antic acid and bromic acid in kiwis improve GI function.

Iced tea regulates the bloat of hormone

Lightly sweetened iced tea is not only thirst-quenching, but is also a remedy for bloat. Researchers at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk have reported that the remedial drink’s mix of water, caffeine and polyphenols signals the hypothalamus to cut down production of vasopressin – the hormone that makes one’s body hold onto fluids as the temperature rises.

Greek yogurt flushes excess fluids

Rich Greek yogurt contains more healthy fats and almost twice as much the protein of regular yogurt. This is real advantage as this duet of nutrients prompt the release trapped fluids in body tissue. In fact, UCLA researchers assert that eating 1 cup a day can help you loose 4 pounds of "false fat" per week.

Watermelon dials down inflammation

Eating watermelon is a yummy way to keep bloating at bay. This delicious fruit is high in potassium and lycopene, which are nutrients that reduce the body’s production of the inflammatory compounds that lead to water retention. Harvard University researchers even claim that munching on 1 cup daily could help you drop up to 4 pounds in 3 weeks.
