Season 4 "The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show" Review

When the Mr. Peabody and Sherman movie hit theaters in 2014, it looked like it was going to be a big hit for Dreamworks and I was really hoping that a sequel would happen. But that looked like it wasn’t going to happen when Dreamworks Animation announced back in 2015 that it was partnering up with Netflix to bring fans a thirteen episode series called The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show. This new modern take on a classic 1960s cartoon series is just as fun and brings humor and time travel for a whole new generation to enjoy.

Now in their 4th season, which premiered Friday, April 24th with all episodes available for streaming, this Netflix original series is still going strong creatively. Picking up where season three left off, we now find Mr. Peabody and his boy Sherman trying to get by after their show got canceled and taken over by the annoying, yet entertaining, Guapo Brothers. The first two episodes of the new season feels like a one hour season premiere as that is how long it takes for things to get back to normal. Once back in its original talk show format we get back to business and the fun shenanigans continue. 

The intro’s funky, dance music is still just as catchy and after that we get introduced to Mr. Peabody (voiced by Chris Parnell) and Sherman (voiced by Max Charles who reprises his role from the 2014 movie). As much as I loved Modern Family’s Ty Burrell, who voiced Peabody in the 2014 movie, Parnell does a fantastic job keeping what we love about this character alive. Charles is a perfect Sherman and seems to have have a lot of fun with the role as Sherman especially when Sherman is acting crazy and bouncing off the walls. They always tell us what the show is going to be about, but they can never seem to stay on track as they are constantly getting interrupted by their nosy neighbors crashing the show and such.

One of my favorite part of each episode is the time-travel adventure story. In this season, they use Peabody’s WABAC machine (pronounced Way-Back, ironic huh) to visit historical characters like Mulan, Edgar Alan Poe, Harry Houdini and Leaf Erikson the Viking. Its broken up into three segments as we shift from that to the chaos that is happening in the studio, which is always hysterical. 

I always enjoy watching the episodes of the show, though I do wish that they would do another movie. The variety show aspect of the series works in its favor as it never really ends in a cliffhanger so that if the show hadn’t performed as well as has fans wouldn’t be left hanging. The jokes and comedy are very original and not at all forced, its just genuinely funny. Each episode is about 22 minutes long and they move at a very smooth pace and they look and sound great in high definition. 

So, if you looking for some family fun entertainment, look no further that the comedic adventures of The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show. There are plenty of laughs for everyone to enjoy, no matter what your age is. So sit back and relax as Mr. Peabody and Sherman go on one fun-filled adventure after another.
