How to Choose a Mobile to Suit Your Personal Needs

Let's explore some of the factors to consider before buying a new phone

Whether you're overdue an upgrade, have broken your screen beyond all repair, or you dropped it down the toilet, there's rarely a great time to think about a new smartphone. However, it's got to be done! We use our smartphones for all kinds of things nowadays, so it's important to choose one that caters to your individual needs. We're going to take a look at some of the factors you should consider before taking the plunge and splurging on a brand new mobile.

What's the Budget?

First up is budget, it's no good writing a whole long checklist of things that your new phone must have if you've only got $100 to spend on it. Be realistic about your budget and consider whether buying a phone outright or taking out a contract is the best step for you. If great specs are non negotiable for you but your budget is small, then it might be that having a contract phone is the better option. If on the other hand you've got a chunk of cash now but are notoriously broke at the end of the month then consider buying something outright instead.

Does Apple Make Sense?

How to Choose a Mobile to Suit Your Personal Needs

Having devices that are compatible with one another can be a game changer

Most people fall strongly into the Android camp or the iOS camp and don't like to deviate. If you've always had an iPhone then it's understandable that you'd want to continue with another. after all, your photos, apps, and phonebook can all be automatically switched over for you. Sometimes it also pays to consider which computer you use, as compatibility between devices can be super helpful. Those with an iPad, iPods and an iMac are probably better off opting for an iPhone. However, if you flip flop between brands, or prefer the increased customizability of Android devices then you know which camp you're in!

Are You a Gamer?

Gaming phones are a whole different ball game, requiring better battery life and more powerful processors. Of course, it depends on the kind of gaming you enjoy. For example, new online casinos as the ones available here usually offer better mobile compatibility and are designed to work with lower-spec phones, whereas large multiplayer games like PUBG and Fortnite will require a much higher spec. If you prefer casino gaming then you'll manage with a modest smartphone, so blackjack and baccarat players need not fear! However, if you're into games that were PC or console blockbusters that made the move to mobile, consider the specs of your new smartphone very carefully.

Budding Photographer?

One of the main factors that people look for when choosing a new smartphone is the camera. Very few of us nowadays regularly carry around a camera that's separate to our phone, which means our phone has to double up as our main means of taking a photo. Some cheaper phones running on the Android operating system have excellent cameras that actually outperform the latest iPhones in tests. If taking beautiful photos is one of your main considerations then be sure to think outside the box to potentially secure yourself a better deal.

Where Do You Live?

If you live in a large city then chances are 5G is readily available so buying a handset that can use 5G is probably a smart move. However, if you live very rurally or regularly visit the countryside, go hiking etc. then choosing a handset can be a bit more confusing. Firstly, you need to consider what the coverage is like for the network you're on and secondly, you need to consider mobile coverage overall. One of the easiest ways to find out which network will work best is to use a network checking site and search for your home address. That way, if you're taking out a contract, you can ensure you get good 4 or 5G as well as mobile signal for making texts and calls. With that out of the way, consider how good the mobile data coverage is in your area and if having a 5G ready phone might actually end up being a waste of time!
